how long can a bearded dragon go without eating?
My beardie hasn't eaten in just over a week, hes going through his first brumation. He doesn't look like hes lost much, if any, weight yet. I mist him every day and I'm planning on giving him a bath later to help rehydrate him. He's really grumpy so I'm trying not to bother him much.
I've got an MVB bulb thats currently on and a ceramic element heater I use at night. He hasn't come out of his hide since last week either, should I just leave the ceramic on all the time and keep the light off?
I've got baby food, wax worms and veggies. I'm not currently getting crickets because he's not eating them, or anything.
I've had him for a year and a half, he's always been healthy hes just never brumated before.
First brumations are scary for the owners! Leave him alone. If he wakes up and moves around, then give him a bath and offer some food. Superworms live a long time so you might keep some of these on hand. You should still have a heat basking bulb on, but you can drop the temp a few degrees (100F is normal). The UVB should also be on. But both lamps can be on for 8-9 hours a day instead of 10-12 hours. It's always a good idea to have your reptile vet check a fecal sample before brumation...going to sleep with a high parasite count is not a good idea. More details on brumation here:
