Linda and Boonie had a pottery stand at the annual Craft Fair. They sold some of their pottery at the original price of $13.50 each, but later decreased the price of each by $4.00. If they sold all 100 pieces and took in $1070, find how many they sold at the original price and how many they sold at the reduced price?
If we say X pieces were sold at the original price, then we can say that 100-X pieces were sold at reduced price. Units sold times cost per unit = profit, so $13.50X = Profit before and $9.50(100-X)=profit after. Total profit ($1070) = profit before ($13.50X) + Profit after ($9.50(100-X))
1070=13.5x+9.5(100-x)
1070=13.5x+950-9.5x
120=4x
30=x= original price units
100-30=70=sale price units
